The corset manufacturing company, which is praised by the famed Kardashian sisters, sells and promotes a line of corsets as “waist trainers,” claiming that they will actually burn fat and give the user a trimmer waist line without exercise or diet changes. Waist Gang Society tells its customers that the material that they use to create their product is what sets them apart from traditional corsets. According to the Waist Gang Society, their waist trainers are made from “a unique latex material, which attacks unwanted fat and impurities within your body.” However, named plaintiff and California resident, Sara Hawes, claims that the latex design of the corsets simply causes the wearer to sweat rather than actually burn fat. Plaintiffs allege that the Waist Gang Society products have more in common with traditional corsets than they lead users to believe. Rather than providing wearers with a quick-fix fitness regimen, the product simply redistributes fat to other parts of the body and, like traditional corsets, shifts internal organs in order to give the illusion of a trimmer waistline.  Plaintiffs claim that had they been aware of the true nature of the product, they would not have purchased it. Defendant is further accused of violating California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, Unfair Competition Act and Breach of Express Warranty. The case is: *Sara Hawes v. Waist Gang Society LLC*, Case No. 2:16-cv-01784, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
